Iron Horse Trail
Once the mainline of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (aka, the Milwaukee Road), this was where the Olympian Hiawatha luxury trains from Chicago came down from the Cascade Mountains into Seattle and Tacoma. Today it is a bicycle and hiking trail known as the Iron Horse Trail.
Hyak trailhead on Iron Horse Trail
Here I am in July 2008 after bicycling the 21 or so miles from the Cedar Falls trailhead to the Hyak trailhead on the Iron Horse Trail (aka John Wayne Trail). Trail users pass through the 2.3-mile long Snoqualmie Tunnel just west of Hyak.
